Many of the teachers with whom I have had the privilege to study would often concur on one thing － they do not personally take or recommend psychedelics.
There is general consensus that these "God plants", also known as entheogens, are unlike Tea, working on their own terms. That means they can alter the natural flow of energy and your state of consciousness, mood and behaviour.
When the rituals and ceremonial intentions and experience are taken out of the equation, these plants can sometimes be taken to your detriment.
You enter their plant kingdom at their own will, and you are thrown back out to reality without fully landing. You may find what you came here to find; you may not. You may survive the experience, you may not. They are effective at best, mercurial at their worst.
When you start to break plant medicine down into "benefits" and for your "hyperaccelerated processing"; that is when the rituals are ignored and the shamanic healing ways and disrespected, and things can fuck up really quickly.
We must restore reverence and ceremony in our treatment of plants. It just has to be a two-way street in this relationship we have with plants because what makes them medicine is us - our hearts opening, our consciousness expanding as we take in the essence of the divine.
Plants taste and smell good because they want to serve us, to bring us back into harmony with Spirit and Earth. 🌿
In my teacher's words, "Tea is the 'emperor of all medicinal herbs' because it is useful on a daily basis, treating all that is human.
Tea is 'adaptagenic', which means she helps to treat all issues of mind, body and spirit.
She aligns us with the Great Spirit of Nature. And it does so on our terms. There is no herb as decidedly human as Tea."
Indeed, why Tea?
She is hailed as The Empress of Medicinal Herbs by the mythical King of the East, Divine Farmer/Shen Nong, a plant medicine that had once been indispensable in the pouches of ancient shamans, She also holds within her the spirit of Mother Earth.
Mother Gaia has gifted us with so many modes of plant medicine, but Tea, it would seem, is extraordinarily resilient. She has stood for many an ancient century. This vibrant embodiment of both Sky and Earth lends her a way of shifting our vibrations tenderly and awakening our hearts. We do not need to enter the plant kingdom to feel Her.
Tea comes to us.
She returns us into the space of harmony with our True Nature, reminding us that we are and have always been part of Mother Gaia.
This is the essence of Dao embodied in a plant.
All the sages and shamans and monks knew, when they empty their minds the Dao flowed right through them, with Tea fluidly pouring forth the wisdom that needed to be imparted, silently, into the cups and bowls of the guests.
But lest we forget, we need not be a sage or monk or shaman to experience the beautiful magic Tea Spirit imparts. Tea is innately present and human － just watch the effortless ways She has adapted to our lives throughout time.
Indeed plenty of my clients have had an "Ayahuasca experience" just with that － Tea that comes from reverent artisans and ancestral lands.
East or West or beyond in the cosmos, She is free and formless, waiting eagerly in the wings of a jade tea jar for us to alchemise Her...
