How does embodying the vortex of stillness permeate my everyday life?
There are no silly questions, only mind-made ones.
When I am asked this question, it always gives me a chance to have a good look into my own heart.
And as always, the answer is right there.
I am given the opportunity everyday to sit with it all.
The joy. The harmony. The reverence. The stillness. And also, the heart-wrenching moments that will open up new doors. The sadness. The fragility of life.
Not adding anything. Not taking anything away.
This is the essence of Tea as a dao, a living art as a way of living.
Tea as a dao to the Great Mysterious Dao.
When I was in Japan, as a ceremonial keeper of Cha Dao I truly felt so deeply moved by the way Tea imbues every part of the lives of those who are in some ways connected with the Leaf.
Even in times when the harvest is uncertain, or when the weather wreaks havoc, the masters of Tea who also are farmers of the land, could only observe and accept this fate － with a deep knowing that something greater is happening.
There is no word of quitting, or putting a deadline on what they are determined to achieve with the quality of Tea they desire to produce.
I also had the honour to sit with an octogenarian and her student in an Urasenke Japanese Tea Ceremony, and the spirit of reverence truly moved me to be more attuned to my lineage and the bigger doors this Leaf is here to open up through me.
The abundance of nature that swirls all around us, all the time, reminding us of non-attachment to circumstantial power... the richness of nature that is always rebirthing into new heights...
I have been sitting with these illuminations and slowly, I am making sense of them, moulding the formlessness into form...
And I know this Way is creating and shaping and cultivating my vortex of stillness so that I can guide my clients to create their own.
