I was always plotting to run away from home, imagining that everything that felt like painful mislocation and a deep emptiness that came with feeling like I never belonged for me since I was very young, would magic away when I do.
I continued to fill in the spaces by trying hard to fit in, shrinking my body and starving myself and gaining a false sense of control with years of anorexia and quasi-recoveries.
I am a late bloomer. I was probably the oldest intern (in comparison) at a high-end luxury magazine for which I had dreamt to write. I rose through the ranks from intern to writer to beauty editor and had some most amazing years there.
I also married late (in comparison) at 34.
I used to identify as a hard-worker. I remember being told when I was in my teens that I was someone who didn't have luck on my side (in comparison), and that I had to work extra hard to get what I want.
In comparison, I am probably going to be crushed to ashes and have nothing to call my own.
