About the Event
This Tuesday marks the 7th day of the 7th month in the Chinese lunar calendar, a day that celebrates the mythical love story between the star-crossed lovers Weaver Girl (織女) and Cowherd Boy (牛郎). Torn asunder by the Gods, the lovers can only meet once a year on this day on the Milky Way in the skies. Qixi is also known as Tanabata in Japanese and Chilseok in South Korea, and is nowadays hailed as the Chinese Valentine's Day in China.
Coming together today here in this Tea Space, we honour this timeless promise made by two soulmates who cannot even be broken up by time, external disapprovals, and space.
I will share the story in the circle over Tea, and we shall have time to appreciate poetry as the sages and emperors were wont to do on such a festive day.
We honour the traditions of folklore and our ancestors with Tea in ceremony, and we honour the present moment by weaving a mandala of love with all of those who sit with us here. A beautiful way to meet like-minded souls and share Tea. After all, "through Tea, make friends" is one of our Tea teacher's favourite adage for very good reasons.
Join us for a meeting steeped in love and light, no matter where you are in the world. One of the beauties of meeting in the virtual space of Zoom is that it allows us to transcend time zones.
Here, simply heart-to-heart and soul-to-soul. You are also welcome to bring along any poetry or special folk stories you'd like to share in the circle. Link in my bio to register for a spot. Drop me a 💫 if you're for true love!
Investment: £11. Please pay through here.
Social Distancing Update: Now, as we adjust to these winds of change, we look at serving Tea virtually, instilling stillness and presence of mind across the digital waves. You can still participate by simply finding a quiet corner and sitting in silence with me during the tea ceremony.
What you need:
1. A bowl or cup is fine too. Prepare a flask or kettle of hot water. If you have no loose leaf teas around, simply pour this steaming hot water into the bowl/cup and drink in tandem with me.
2. As you sit in silence you begin to become conscious of the Qi the heat is catalysing within you. Continue to sip on the water/tea, and begin to sink into this meditative silence.
The more often we partake in ceremony, the easier we find it to sink into meditation and slowly, this meditative pace and appreciation for the simplest things in life will seep into your daily lives. After the ceremony has ended, I will be opening the floor to reflections, questions, and of course, a chat. The bowls, as they come and go during the tea ceremony, is a symbolic mandala of our connection – as we sit together we drop all egos and identities are simply being ourselves, with the conscious awareness that we are also all individuals who will eventually leave this ceremony to go on with our lives. In this moment, it is my honour to sit and connect us all. In this moment that is all that matters – this very moment.
